Solid Ash Carving - Hurley & Sliotar in Native Ash

 

I was delighted to be asked to make this piece for Modeligo GAA Club's Victory Banquet in March 2015. It was in acknowledgment of their outgoing manager for the many great achievements together. John McGrath, a local hurley maker & member of the club, made the hurley from solid Ash using traditional methods.

I carved the Sliotar from a piece of solid Burr from a local native Ash tree that came down in a storm about 4 years ago. Then laser engraved the hurley with the inscription & Club Crest and the piece was then assembled and finished with a clear wax oil. A fitting piece for the tribute it carries ...
